Goa Sudharop International Youth Convention 2012

Goa Sudharop Community Development Inc. U.S.A., a volunteer and non-profit

organization that works for the betterment of Goa and Goans worldwide, is hosting the

much-anticipated International Goan Youth Convention in Goa during the last week

of December 2012. The convention aims to bring together Goan youth from across

the world, help them learn more about Goa and give them the opportunity to work on

projects in different fields, like environmental, educational, heritage-related, social and

medical projects, that will benefit Goa. About 200 enthusiastic and dynamic Goan youth

are expected to participate in the event.

The Govt. College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Sanquelim in collaboration with Goa Sudharop Trust has organized a day’s state-level Workshop on “Youth Development”, recently.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. Rajendra Kerkar, by lighting the traditional lamp alongwith the guests and some participants.

The College Principal Dr. B. A. Gomes welcomed, introduced the guests and spoke on the design of the Workshop towards the all-round development of young minds who will go out into the society. Mr. Ibonio D’Souza, Chairman of Goa Sudharop Trust spoke on the activities of the Trust and introduced its Youth representative from California U.S.A., Ms. Sheela Almeida.

Goa Sudharop Community Development Inc. U.S.A., a Goan diaspora, volunteer, non-profit NGO working for betterment of Goa and Goans worldwide, announces scholarship awards to meritorious students of Std. X, and Std. XII of Goa State Board for academic year 2008-9. Goa Sudharop observes 2009 as "Year of Youth" in Goa, and this scholarship is one of the several educational programmes that are being undertaken by Goa Sudharop in this theme year.

There will be 16 awards for Std. X, and 6 awards for Std. XII meritorious students. Each awardee will receive a cash amount of Rs. 5,000/- and a Certificate of Merit. Preference will however be given to students having genuine financial need. Applications from elligible students are invited through respective school Heads, supported by required certifications, before 15th December, 2009. Goa Sudharop Community Development Inc. U.S.A., a Goan diaspora, volunteer, non-profit NGO, working for betterment of Goa and Goans worldwide, wishes to announce Goan Youth Achiever 2009 Awards to Goan youth for outstanding or iconic work in fields like 1) Sports - all catagories, 2) Environmental Awareness and Protection, 3) Social Work, 4) Art & Culture, including Music and Heritage. The age limit to qualify for these awards is from 15 to 25 years. There are in all four awards to be won, and each awardee will receive a sum of Rs. 10,000/- in cash and a Certificate of Merit. Goa Sudharop observes 2009 as "Year of Youth" in Goa, and these awards is one of the several educational programmes being organised by Goa Sudharop during this theme year.

Aspiring youth are invited to apply with full documentary evidence, including certifications and recommendations from relevant authorities or institutions, before 15th December 2009. Together Towards Tomorrow

The Vidya Vikas Mandal's Ramacrisna Madeva Higher Secondary school Margao in association with Goa Sudharop Community Development Inc USA organized a one day training programme "Together Towards Tomorrow" for students of Std X. XI and XII at R.M.Salgaocar Higher secondary School Margao. 86 students from various schools of Margao participated in the training programme. Mr.Ramnath G.Kare President of Vidya Vikas Mandal was the Chief Guest for the Inaugural ceremony. Mr Ibonio D'souza. Goa Representative of Goa Sudharop welcomed the gathering and informed the audience about the various activities conducted by the Goa Sudharop and the future plans for the benefit of the students. Mr. Vinod V. Powar Principal of R.M.Salgaocar Higher secondary school introduced the Chief Guest.

Workshop for the Young Aspirants held at Cuncolim

In connection with its 2009 YEAR OF THE YOUTH theme, Goa Sudharop, in association with Rotary Club and C.E.S. College of Arts and Commerce, Cuncolim, organized a One-day Workshop for young aspirants on 12th September 2009 in the College Audio-visual Hall. Goa Sudharop is a development oriented voluntary organization working towards the advancement of Goa and Goans.

The programme titled “YOU CAN DO IT” was conducted in the College Audio-visual Hall, Cuncolim. Around 100 students participated in the Workshop.

At the inaugural session Mr. Anil V. Pai, President, Rotary Club, welcomed the gathering and told the participants to take the benefit of the Workshop to develop into complete citizens. Mr. Bhicu Dessai, member, Rotary Club, introduced the Chief Guest. The workshop was inaugurated by lighting the lamp.

PRESS RELEASE A two days Panchayati Raj Worskshop for women on the topic 'Empowered women for Effective Local Self-Governance' was held on 31st January and 1st February 2009 at the Peaceful Society campus in Madkai. The Workshop was organised by the Centre for Panchayati Raj and Grameen Mahila Manch - Peaceful Society in association with Goa Sudharop. The Chief guest Mr. Ibonio D'Souza, Chairperson of Goa Sudharop Trust inaugurated the workshop.Addressing the women participants at the Workshop, Mr. D'Souza deplored the state of governance in Goa as being non-people friendly, irresponsive and the cause of chaos thereby forcing the people to come to the streets to demand their basic needs. "Democracy is name sake as free and enlightened participation of the people in governance is absent", exclaimed Mr. D'Souza. He recalled Mahatma Gandhi's demand for democracy in the Panchayati Raj system so that the villages prosper and reminded the participants that Panchayat Raj system was an ancient holistic concept of governance which ensured peace, tranquility and holistic development. "Panchayati Raj respects the uniqueness of the individual", said Mr. D'Souza. While pointing out that for the success of Panchayati Raj devolution of powers must take place, Mr. D'Souza lamented that women are not given encouragement and whatever is being done in this regard is not enough. He further said that he felt proud to state that the Centre For Panchayati Raj has played a major role in bringing much needed awareness to the villages which every 'true Goemkar ' must acknowledge and needs to support such initiatives. Assuring that Goa Sudharop desires to work in coordination with like minded NGO's, Mr. D''Souza informed that Goa Sudharop having dedicated the year 2009 for the Youth, several workshops, seminars and other events would be organised in the course of this year to help develop leadership among Goa's youth. He exhorted the women to utilise every minute of this workshop to know about Panchayati Raj and develop their confidence, knowledge and power.

Goa Sudharop Community Development Inc. a Goans diaspora, non-profit, volunteer NGO working for betterment of Goa and Goans worldwide, had their Annual Awards Presentation at Mandovi Hotel, Panjim on Tuesday, 6^th January, 2009 from 4 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. Mr. George Pinto, Goa Sudharop’s USA-based co-founder and Director was the Chief Guest.

Three cash awards were given to the winners of the essay competition: “Education in Goa: What is needed?” held for heads of schools in Goa. Two scholarships to financially deserving and meritorious Hindu girl and Christian boy were awarded. Shri Udaya Venkatesh Ballikar was honoured with Goa Sudharop Fellowship for his lifelong, dedicated and inspiring work in education. So also donations were made to several deserving educational institutions, homes for the aged and sick, and to several NGOs serving public causes. (See attachment for details).

Teacher Workshop on Discipline without Tears at GVM's College of EducationIn an era where the individual emotions of children need to accommodated, the Extension Service of GVMʼs College of Education, Ponda, organized a day's workshop entitled "Discipline without Tears". The workshop was in view of the need felt to enable the teachers in equipping themselves with the skills of classroom discipline. Dr. Nandita de Sousa, from Sethu Centre for Child Development and Family Guidance, Altinho, was the resource person for the day and the programme could see the light of dawn, thanks to the wholehearted support and assistance of Goa Sudharop which sponsored the programme.

Goa Sudharop is a Goan Diaspora volunteer, non-profit NGO working for betterment of Goa and Goans worldwide. Goa Sudharop observes 2008 as “Year of Education” in Goa, and in line with this theme Goa Sudharop has chosen to specially focus on training and empowerment of school teachers. Hence, this workshop, which is one of the many such types of educational programmes being conducted by Goa Sudharop this year.

Press Release on the RWH Workshop

As part of it's celebrations on the theme "Year of the Environment", a workshop on Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) was recently organized by Goa Sudharop Community Development Inc in association with the Botanical Society of Goa (BSG) and the Britto's Old Boys' Association (BOB). Held at Institute Menezes Braganza on 11th Sept 2007, the program was aimed at school and college teachers and elicited an enthusiastic response with nearly 50 participants taking part in the program.

After a welcome address by Mr. Ibonio D'Souza, Board Member and local representative of Goa Sudharop, and an introduction by Roque Carvalho of the BOB, the workshop was inaugurated by Principal Newman Fernandes of St. Xavier's College. Prof Newman gave a very informative Powerpoint presentation of the RWH project on the Xavier's campus. The technical session that followed was moderated by Dr. Hiremath, Head of Department of Botany, Dhempe College, Panjim. Dr A. D. Chachadi, senior lecturer at Goa University and Architect Pravin Sabnis who were the resource persons for the workshop, explained the need, and the ways and means available, to replenish our ground and subsurface water resources.
