ENVIROZEST 2007

SHARADA MANDIR

VIDYA VIKAS ACADEMY

MAHILA & NUTAN EXCEL!!!

Keeping the all round formation and holistic development of the individual, in mind, Vidya Vikas Academy took up the project ENVIROZEST- 2007 in collaboration with Goa Sudharop Community Development Inc., U.S.A. , a volunteer non-profit diaspora NGO working for the betterment of Goa and Goans worldwide under  the leadership of their local representative Mr. Ibonio D'Souza. The word ENVIROZEST, itself brings about the enthusiasm, drive and determination to build a cleaner, greener, healthier and friendlier surrounding.

400 students from fourteen schools participated, Shri Damodar Vidyalaya English High School, Deepvihar High School, Loyola High School, Manovikas English Medium School, Fatima Convent High School, Presentation Convent High School, M & N English High School, Holy Spirit Institute, Vidya Vikas Academy, Sharada Mandir High School, Adarsha V.V. High School, New Era High School, Bhatikar Model English High School and Govt. Multipupose High School.

The events conducted were Rock Talk – creating life through painting and speech, Wood Craft – usage of woody material to portray a desired forest, Its Only Words – a slogan writing based on pollution, Terra Palette – a poster designing contest based on the theme Nurture Nature, Rang De – intricate carpet designing with eco-friendly material, Chalte Chalte – a street play that brought about the need for a healthy Goa, Eco –Trail – a quiz competition enlightened us as the children were able to answer many of our queries and which was highly informative, and to set our feet a dancing through the jingles of Jungle Jingle, a singing contest on animals.

The students exhibited their talents, their creativity, confidence and skills in the language and culture. It also brought about the much needed interaction, co-ordination and co-operation between the participating schools. The zest, the sense of purpose, the enthusiasm, joy and involvement of the children was amazing. The 14 eminent judges had a herculean task to judge the  contestants and they were all praise for the concept and the quality of the work of the children.

Chief Guest for the Valedictory function and Awards Ceremony was Dr. L.U. Joshi (Chairman of the Goa State Pollution Board) and Guest of Honour was Dr. Francisco Colaco, Shri Ramnath . Kare, President of Vidya Vikas Mandal presided and Sheela Gaunekar, Chairperson of the school graced the occasion. Mr. Ibonio D'Souza proposed a vote of thanks.

Our splash board and our visitors entries spoke of the joy of participating by parents, teachers and guests at ENVIROZEST 2007. Our thanks to the media, Goa News and Doodarshan for their coverage. Kudos to SHARADA MANDIR (PANAJI) and to DEEP VIHAR (VASCO) for braving the torrential showers to participate in this event!!!

With ENVIROZEST, Goa Sudharop can, with all humility, be legitimately satisfied and fulfilled that their efforts to bring home the all-important message of environment concern at the grass-root level were fully involved and focused. The organization was excellent, the contest were innovative and challenging, the enthusiasm generated was mind-boggling and the standard of the participants surpassed everything. All in all, an event etched in the memory of everyone present.

Well done Vidya Vikas Academy and congratulations to Principal Alan Rodrigues and his dedicated and motivated team of teachers and support staff – we look forward to more such ventures with you.

Ibonio D'Souza ( Goa Sudharop Board Member)
