Report of the Seminar organized by GOA SUDHAROP in association with V.V.M’S
R.M. SALGAOCAR Higher Secondary School on August 13, 2010 in connection with
Goa Sudharop's 2010 theme "YEAR OF THE GOAN VOLUNTEER SPIRIT".
The seminar was held at Kare law College Hall and attended by 210 students
which included those from various Higher Secondary Schools such as Carmel
HSS, R.M. Salgaocar HSS and Multipurpose HSS with their teachers.
The seminar began at 8.45 a.m. with the inaugural function. Principal Shri.
Vinod V.Powar of R.M. Salgaocar HSS, welcomed the gathering. The executive
Director, of Goa Sudharop, Mr.Ibonio D’Souza introduced the gathering about
the mission of Goa Sudharop.
The Chief Guest for the seminar was Rev. Father Kyriel D’Souza, an eminent
spiritual personality and an academician Rev. Father Kyriel D’Souza
addressed the gathering and also enlightened the students on the topic “Put
your best foot forward”. He encouraged students not to get discouraged when
problems come their way, but face them bravely. Next there was an
interesting talk “Serve and Deserve” by Brahmachari Acharya Prahlad
Chaitanyaji of Chinmay Mission who expressed the importance of voluntary
service.
After a refreshing tea break Mr. Pravin Sabnis of Unlearning Unlimited spoke
on “Volunteering to make a difference” explaining that each one of us has
the power to make positive things happen in our lives.
“Caring for Mother Nature” was another interesting topic presented by Mr.
Savio Fernandes of Dual Angle and a nature lover. He stressed upon our
concern, attention, reaction and empathy (CARE) towards mother nature and
how little we are doing about it.
The program ended with distribution of certificates to the participating
students and teachers and mementos to the faculty members. A special prize
was given to the best volunteer by Mr. Ibonio D’Souza.
The whole seminar was co-ordinated by NSS Programme Officer of RMSHSS, Mrs.
Rekha Mohan Rao along with other NSS Programme Officers and students.
Students were provided much information on volunteerism and a lunch packet.

66 students attended the workshop TAKE FLIGHT organized by Goa Sudharop at Caritas, Panaji on 10 January 2010. (52 remained till the very end) . The break up is as follows: 20 - Dhempo HSSC, Miramar, 12 - Fr Agnel's College, Pilar, 15 - DM College, Assagao, 8 - Govt College, Khandola, 3 - Xavier College, Mapusa, 2 - VMS Law College, Miramar, 1 - PCCE, Verna, 5 - other youth
Fr Maverick Fernandes and Dr Joe D'Souza were the chief guests for the inaugural and valedictory.
Mr Ibonio D'souza welcomed the gathering at the inaugural and proposed the vote of thanks at the valedictory.
Resource persons included Pravin Sabnis, Soter D'Souza, Dr. Bernadette Gomes, Dr Anil Rane, Miguel Braganza.
The Annual Awards presentation ceremony by Goa Sudharop Community Development Inc., a USA-based non-profit, volunteer NGO working for the betterment of Goa and Goans worldwide, was held at Hotel Mandovi, Panjim, on 14 January, 2010. Ms. Shilla Almeida, Goa Sudharop’s Youth Ambassador from USA was also present for the function which was ably compered by GS volunteer, Mrs. Carmen Martins. The program also featured excellent cultural performances by the students of Fr. Agnel College, Pilar.
In accordance with the Goa Sudharop theme for the year 2009 (Year of Youth), and as a mark of support and encouragement of their efforts and achievements, Goa Sudharop chose to give cash and other awards to youth and those working with youth, including students, institutions, social activists and others.
St. Rock’s High School Tollecanto – Velim organized its Inter – School Value based Skits Competition 2009 – 2010 for A.V.C.C. Schools for the 02nd consecutive year on 19th September 2009. Each School presented two skits i.e. Primary in Konkani and Secondary in English. It was indeed an unique event!
The Manager Fr. Querobino Baptista welcomed the audience and Tr. Mrs. Martha Menezes introduced the Chief Guest Mr. Ibonio Melicio D’Souza Chairperson of Goa Sudharop Trust [affiliated to Goa Sudharop Community Development Inc. USA] a Goan Diaspora, Volunteer, Non – Profit Organisation working for betterment of Goa and Goans Worldwide. She also introduced the judges Rev. Fr. Savio Viegas – Parish Priest Betul, Rev. Fr. Carlisto Coelho – Baradi Chaplin and Rev. Fr. Sony Fernandes – Parish Priest Kanaguinim and the D.S.E. Animators Mr. Manuel D’Costa and Mr. Menino Verdes.
